Australian Mensa Conference is our yearly central event and one of the benefits of your membership. Do not miss out on the opportunity to:
Who can attend?
All members can register. Members can bring their partners and family members including kids/parents as usual (they still need to register if they will access the conference area). Kids even get a discount, although they are free to participate at adults part too. Hotel is conveniently located in CBD behind the bus terminal, so it is easy to get from NSW or VIC by bus or if you are coming by plane from anywhere else – transfer options exist. Saving on travel is important and alternative low-cost accommodation is also available (see our website for more info). Find more info on the conference webpage and a link to Mensa event to register. Please note, you will need to sign in on our Mensa website to register. Polo shirts and hoodies options will become unavailable closer to the event (for a manufacturing cut off) so please do not postpone your registration!
Content – this could be the best conference ever!
We have some amazing speakers, CEO of Royal Flying Doctors who will also bring 6 virtual reality sets, two Artificial Intelligence speakers of which one is a TEDx speaker, astrophysicist, radio host, traffic expert who delivered award winning international speech and much more. As a matter of fact, we will have about 7-9 speakers (long and short speeches combined) plus about 7 member speakers for short speeches. Opportunities for questions or discussions are endless.
Kids will have a mixture of our own programme and – for the first time ever - external professional programme to challenge their minds and creativity. On Sunday, there is an optional trip to Questacon where we secured good time for a very low price.
Social
Each AMC is about meeting new Mensans from around Australia and catching up with those who you already know. Local Mensans get exposure to members from around Australia and Canberra is easy to reach for quite a few capital cities. We have information on what to do in Canberra if you decide to extend your stay – you will get surprised how much free or low-cost activities are available in this city.
We have Icebreakers on Friday, small gaps between speaking sessions for discussions, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a Gala dinner on Saturday plus optional activities on Sunday. If this is your first time, you will meet people easily, but you can also find one of our friendly volunteers to introduce you to other Mensans. We will have about 10 volunteers, just look for people with black lanyards if you need anything.
Only Icebreakers (a must!), Gala dinner (a must!), test for non-members and Sunday transfers are optional costs, all other conference costs are included, including food & tea!
Testing session
On Sunday after AGM, for all people who registered for a test (late registrations are possible, number is limited), we will run a testing session. Bring your family members interested in Mensa to this conference and give them a chance to join us at the end.
Next AMCs
Next AMCs will be in Adelaide (next year) and Perth (in two years).
We are looking to forward to see you in Canberra!
